Moving Abroad with a Dog: Meet Basil!
A calm moment with Basil before her flight — a reminder of how important trust and comfort are during relocation.
When the Berger family decided to relocate from New York, USA to the UK, one of their biggest concerns was making sure their beloved Husky-Shepherd, Basil, could make the journey safely and comfortably.
“I was incredibly nervous—my dog means the world to me, and I was so scared something could go wrong.”
— L.B., Basil’s dog mom
Preparing Basil for Her International Journey
Basil cozying up in her travel crate before takeoff — crate training helped ease her nerves for the long journey ahead.
Relocating a dog internationally isn’t as simple as booking a plane ticket. Here’s what Basil’s journey involved:
- UK Health Certificate: USDA-endorsed documents were required for entry into the UK.
- Vaccinations & Microchipping: Basil needed a valid rabies vaccine and a 15-digit ISO-compliant microchip.
- Crate Training: To ensure comfort, Basil spent time getting used to her IATA-approved travel crate.
- Fit-to-Fly Certificate: Issued by an accredited veterinarian before departure.
Choosing the Right Pet Transport Company
After researching several pet relocation options, Basil’s family chose WorldCare Pet Transport.
“Amanda was absolutely amazing in helping me relocate my dog! She was so knowledgeable, patient, and supportive through every step of the process. I was incredibly nervous—my dog means the world to me, and I was so scared something could go wrong—but Amanda made everything feel so much easier. The whole team did a great job, but Amanda truly went above and beyond. Thank you so much, Amanda!”

Touchdown in the UK
Basil arrived safely in the UK after a smooth flight and customs clearance (note: customs clearance usually takes 3–6 hours). Her tail was wagging the minute she reunited with her family!
Tips for Other Pet Parents Moving a Dog to the UK
Taking a breather before departure. Outdoor time like this helped Basil stay relaxed and happy during the process.
Thinking of relocating your dog internationally? Here’s what we recommend:
- Start early: Paperwork and crate training take time.
- Ask questions: Make sure your pet transport company walks you through each step.
- Choose pet-first service: Look for companies that prioritize animal care, not just logistics.
