Preparing your pet for travel, whether it's across the country or to another continent, can be a daunting task. At WorldCare Pet Transport, our dedicated Pet Relocation Counselors offer personalized guidance to ensure a seamless journey for your furry companion. Discover our expert tips below to make your beloved pet's travel experience stress-free and comfortable.
What To Know Before You Go:
Pick-Up: Before our arrival, please ensure your pet is in a secure area so they can safely be placed inside their travel carrier. If your pet isn't accustomed to their carrier, we may ask you to place them inside beforehand.
Nail Clipping: We highly recommend clipping your pet's nails a day or two before their move to prevent any potential injury if they tend to scratch or claw inside the carrier.
Haircut: If you're relocating from a cooler climate to a warmer one and your pet has long hair, consider giving them a haircut before the move. This adjustment can help them acclimate better to the higher temperatures and ensure their comfort in the new environment.
Alleviating Anxiety: Please provide an article of clothing, an old blanket, or a towel that carries the scent of home. We'll place this familiar item in your pet’s travel carrier on the day of transport to provide comfort and help reduce anxiety during travel. Please note that this item may become soiled and will be disposed of, so please avoid sending valuables.
Food: Pack your pet’s favorite dry food or treats in a plastic zip-lock bag. Airlines will feed pets during rest stops at their discretion, so no wet or raw food will be accepted for travel.
Collar and ID Tags: For safety reasons, please remove your pet’s collar and ID tags as they could potentially get caught on the front gate door. Your pet will be easily identifiable through their microchip and the paperwork attached to the travel carrier.
Dog Leashes: While you can provide a leash for your pet, our partners will use slip leads due to airlines' tendency to misplace them. It's advisable to have a spare leash available in case your pet returns home without one.
Feeding/Water Before Flight: For your pet's comfort, it's recommended they travel on an almost empty stomach. Feeding recommendations will be based on your pet’s age, size, flight duration, and regular dietary routine. Providing water before the flight is acceptable.
Toys/Bones: Please do not include toys, bones, or other potential choking hazards with your pet's belongings for travel; these items will not be allowed during transport.
