Health Requirements For Pets To Enter Canada

Microchip

While not mandatory for entry into Canada, fulfilling this requirement may be essential for your pet's eligibility to depart from their origin country. Ensure your pet meets all necessary pet travel requirements

Microchip Timing: Your pet's microchip must be implanted before receiving their most recent vaccinations.

ISO-Compliant Microchip:Ensure your pet is identified with a 15-digit, ISO-compliant microchip. Canada accepts AVID chips (9 digits) from certain countries as part of pet identification requirements.

Regular Microchip Scans: Ask your veterinarian to scan your pet's microchip during every vet visit. Confirm the microchip is functioning, readable, and matches all medical records.

Avoid Travel Delays: If your pet's microchip is unreadable or its information is incorrect on paperwork, it could delay their travel plans.

Additional Vaccines

Depending on your country of origin, the following general vaccinations may not be required but are highly recommended for your pet's safety during travel. If these vaccinations are mandatory in your country of origin, they must follow manufacturer guidelines and be administered at least 14 to 30 days before travel to Canada. Additionally, all vaccines must be unexpired at the time of entry.

For Dogs:
