What Are Brazil's Banned Breeds?

Ban on animals with Leishmaniasis

Any dog (or other susceptible species) that has ever been diagnosed with Leishmaniasis cannot be imported. This means:

  • You’ll need a clean health history showing no past Leishmaniasis infection.

  • If your pet has ever tested positive (even if treated), you cannot bring it into that country.

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease transmitted by sandflies, and many countries prohibit the entry of animals that might carry it to protect local animal and human populations.
