If you have not already started planning for your pet's move to Panama, please note that it can take up to 4-6 weeks for your pet's movement.
What Are The Pet Restrictions in Panama?
Panama does not have a ban on certain breeds, but several municipalities and housing options may have regulations or bans for certain breeds, weight limits, etc. These dogs may be required to be registered, neutered, and kept on a leash and muzzled in public.
Each pet is checked upon entry and will not be allowed into the country if it is sick.
Should I Keep My Pet's Original Health Documents When Moving to Panama?
Make sure to keep all original health documents for your pet at all times. Do not pack or take them with you—they are your pet’s “passport” for travel!

What Vaccines Are Needed For Your Pet?
Rabies VaccineThe rabies vaccine must be greater than 30 days before entry into Panama and must remain valid on the date of the final health check and entry into Panama. It must be given by a government-accredited vet. A 3-year rabies vaccine is acceptable, as long as it's current and unexpired at the time of entry into Panama.
Please Note: Your pet should be at least 12 weeks old at the time of their first rabies vaccine
Additional Required Vaccinations
These general vaccinations must be greater than 30 days old and remain unexpired at the time of the final health check. Even if your country does not require them, we highly recommend general vaccinations to ensure your pet's safety during travel.
For Dogs:
- DHPP+L: Protects against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, and Leptospirosis.
- Bordetella (Kennel Cough): Should be given within the last 6 months.
For Cats:
- FVRCP: Protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia.
These vaccines help protect your pet from common diseases, ensuring a safer travel experience.
Internal & External Parasite Treatments
Your pet must be treated against internal and external parasites within 10 days of departure. This treatment must be administered by a veterinarian.
Document Requirements For Pets to Enter Panama
Health Certificate
An accredited veterinarian should examine your pet, and they will complete the Veterinary Health
Certificate for Export of Dogs & Cats to Panama within 7-10 days of your pet’s intended departure. This document must be authenticated by the Panamanian Consulate with a Government Apostille Stamp.

Additional Document Requirements
Fit to Fly Certificate
This certificate can be completed at the same time as the Veterinary Export Health Certificate but must be completed within 7-10 days of your pet's departure, depending on your origin country. A Government-Accredited Veterinarian must sign and date this document, confirming that your pet is healthy to fly.

Home Quarantine Form
All pets arriving in Panama are expected to adhere to the 72-hour home quarantine rule. Please ensure that you do not bring your pet(s) from your property during the first 3 days in the country.
If you decide to work with us, WorldCare Pet will complete this for you UNLESS you are taking your pet(s) in the passenger cabin or as excess baggage attached to your ticket.
