Before you fly

Spain follows EU entry rules for pets: an ISO microchip, a rabies vaccination given after the microchip, and an official health certificate. Updated EU rules for non-commercial pet moves took effect October 1, 2026. Our Spain pet relocation guide covers each step.

Arriving at Barcelona El Prat

Pets flying into Barcelona as cargo are cleared at El Prat’s cargo terminal, not the passenger terminal. Spain’s animal health officials check the paperwork, scan the microchip and examine your pet, and customs signs off before release. With door-to-door service, WorldCare coordinates each step and the drive home.

Renting with a pet in Barcelona

In Spain, a landlord can include a no-pets clause in a lease, and a building's community rules may limit pets, especially in shared areas. If the lease says nothing about pets, they aren't automatically banned. Some Barcelona landlords ask pet parents for an extra deposit or proof of liability insurance, so ask about both before you sign.

Getting around with a dog

Dogs can ride the Barcelona metro, one per person, wearing a muzzle and on a non-extending leash. They need a microchip and registration with the city's pet register. From September 11 to June 24, weekday hours are 5 to 7 am, 9 am to 5 pm, and 7:30 pm to close. Weekends, holidays and summer have no time limits. Take the stairs or lift, since dogs aren't allowed on escalators.

The resources below cover vets, dog parks, groomers, boarding and pet shops around the city.
