Let’s get started!
Microchip Identification
Is a microchip required? Depending on your country of origin, a microchip may or may not be mandatory for pet travel to Brazil. However, it is highly recommended to ensure smooth entry.
- If required, your pet must have a 15-digit, ISO-compliant microchip implanted before their most recent rabies vaccination.
- Regularly scan your pet’s microchip at vet visits to ensure it is readable and correctly linked to their records.
Rabies and General Vaccinations
Your pet must be up to date on vaccinations before entering Brazil. Rabies vaccination is mandatory, and additional vaccines may be required depending on your country of origin.
Rabies Vaccine Requirements:
- Must be at least 30 days old and valid at the time of travel
- Given by a government-accredited veterinarian
- Pets must be at least 12 weeks old at the time of their first rabies vaccine
Additional General Vaccinations:
Dogs:
- DHPP+L (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza & Leptospirosis)
- Bordetella (Kennel Cough) – Administered within the last 6 months
Cats:
- FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia)
Some countries, such as Colombia, require these vaccinations to be at least 14 days old and valid within 1 year at the time of export.
Internal & External Parasite Treatments
Your pet must be treated for internal and external parasites before traveling to Brazil. The timeframe for treatment depends on your country of origin:
- This can be done at the same time as the final health examination
- Ensure your veterinarian provides proof of parasite treatments in your pet’s health documents
Health Certificate & Fit-to-Fly Certificate
A Government-Accredited Veterinarian must examine your pet and issue an official health certificate.
Timing: The health certificate must be completed within 5 to 10 days before departure, depending on your departure country’s regulations.
Working with WorldCare Pet? Our Pet Relocation Counselors will coordinate this step and confirm the exact timing based on your location.
Fit-to-Fly Certificate:
Airlines require an additional Fit-to-Fly Certificate, which can be completed at the same time as the health certificate or by your local vet prior to travel.
Important: Keep all original documents with your pet during travel. These act as their passport for entry into Brazil!
Choosing an IATA-Approved Travel Crate
Your pet’s crate must meet IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations to ensure a safe and comfortable journey.
Size Requirements:
- Your pet must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably inside the crate.
- Incorrectly sized crates may result in denied boarding.
