Let’s get started!
Microchip Identification
Your pet’s microchip must be implanted before their most recent rabies vaccination to be eligible for entry into Spain. It must be an ISO-compliant microchip (15 digits)
Tip: Have your pet’s microchip scanned at every vet visit to ensure it’s working, readable, and matches all records.
Rabies Vaccination
Your cat or dog’s rabies vaccination must be at least 21 days old and valid for 1 year at the time of entry into Spain
Note: A 3-year vaccine is accepted, provided there has been no lapse in vaccination history.
Spain EU Health Certificate & Owner Declaration
An accredited veterinarian must examine your pet and complete the Spain EU Health Certificate within 10 days of departure.

International Fit-to-Fly Certificate
This certificate must also be completed by an accredited vet within 10 days of travel. It confirms your pet is healthy and cleared for air travel.
IATA-Approved Travel Crate
Your dog or cat’s travel crate must comply with IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations to ensure safety and comfort.
Size Requirements:
- Your pet must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
- Incorrectly sized crates may result in denied boarding.
Dog Breed Restrictions in Spain
Spain does not ban any breeds from entry, but certain breeds must be registered within 3 months of arrival and are required to wear a muzzle when in public:
- Akita Inu
- American Staffordshire Terrier
- Dogo Argentino
- Fila Brasileiro
- Pit Bull Terrier
- Rottweiler
- Staffordshire Bull Terrier
